The shop is located in what was formerly known as the "Old Masonic Hall." It was built by the Masons in 1892, and has been used by various businesses over the years. At one time, it housed a Funeral Parlor and David Ross Drake, who was an Embalmer.
The shop is a small, comfortable, hauntingly delightful place to visit. Upon my arrival there, it was obvious that the area was loaded with much positive energy. It is not uncommon for my guests to detect a strong perfume odor while standing near the vintage cash register or smelling the distinct odor of tobacco in the rear of the shop.
During the Christmas season of 2006, I painstakingly decorated my storefront window for the holidays. Two women who lived across the street and had just received a new digital camera, stopped by my shop. Evidently, they snapped some photos of my Christmas window around midnight the night before. They said "Lorrie, we have something to show you, but we don't know if you'll want to see it." They then proceeded to show me 3 pictures on their new camera. I was amazed to see what appeared to be fifty faces looking out of my front window.
As you can imagine, I was very excited and immediately asked them for copies. I was disappointed to learn that they had moved from the area. After an exhausting search, they showed up at the shop a few years later to purchase tickets for the Historic Ghost Tour. When I inquired about the photos, they said they had deleted them!
This occurance, however, seemed to be the beginning of a strong relationship between my shop and the M.A.P.S. Team. Wayne Nye, who was a regular customer over the years, decided to do some research on the building. Since he is a genealogist, he came up with some pretty amazing information.
To this day, he is still unraveling interesting pieces of history surrounding this area. The M.A.P.S. Team have witnessed shadows, white wisps, coins located in strange places,(such as the toilet bowl) and baskets moving across the floor, to name a few instances. It is understandable that with all the history which took place within these walls, some of the energies lingered behind. We feel privileged to be part of this connection to the past and treat it with much respect.
Take note of the lady walking to the left. Also, note the gentleman in the upstairs window!
